Make the Call for Darfur: Impose Targeted Multilateral Sanctions Now Against Khartoum
October 2007
THE ACTION: Call the White House comment line (202-456-1111), and ask to leave this message: “President Bush, please do all you can to help impose targeted multilateral sanctions against the Government of Sudan’s senior leaders. Our country must do all it can to end the genocide in Darfur now.”
—
WHY YOUR ACTION IS IMPORTANT: If imposed, targeted multilateral sanctions will help bring about a change in the Government of Sudan’s behavior. Right now, among other things, the government is refusing permission to the UN to upgrade runways in Darfur, ensuring that large cargo planes carrying critical heavy equipment for the newly-authorized UN-AU Darfur force are unable to land. If Khartoum is allowed to continue this obstruction of the UN-AU deployment, more Darfuri men, women, and children will needlessly die.
For more background, read the ENOUGH Project’s Oct. 2007 report “How to Get the UN/AU Hybrid Force Deployed to Darfur.”

Note: If you visit this page often, you might have noticed that we have posted this one action a number of times already. This is simply because there is an urgent need right now for advocates to push forward the “Targeted Multilateral Sanctions Now” message. We must continue pushing until our public officials act!
